Billy the Brave Knight

Free Download!

If you follow me on Instagram you will know we have been working on Castles as our topic at the moment. This literacy resource provides a basic story framework for the "Billy the Brave Knight" story. This is a Key Stage 1 storytelling tool kit being used across many UK primary schools, including Laurie's. But for his benefit I have symbolised the standard story using Widget Symbols. Although Laurie is able to remember phrases and stories repeated well, being able to explore the pictures and words as he chooses will help him to understand the meaning and experiment with it, with greater ease.

Once learners are happy and confident that they know the story well, they can then use their imagination to change and alter the story, inventing new characters new places or things to do see or eat.

Perhaps Billy will ride a dragon? Or have more friends? or cook up sausage rolls instead?

I love using story and writing frames and they are ideal for those who don't know where to begin when writing. They provides a "safe zone" in which learners can have fun and express themselves as much or little as they are able to, without having to invent an entire story or feel at risk of making mistakes.

Please click here for the PDF. I recommend printing it with 2 page per sheet, making the story A5 in size, which is just a bit more manageable for reading.

Happy Storytelling
